Ingredients
For the Cake Base:
3 ripe bananas, sliced
1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, undrained
1 can (15 oz) strawberry pie filling
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Optional Toppings for Serving:
1 cup chocolate chips
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Maraschino cherries
Vanilla or strawberry ice cream
Whipped cream
Chocolate syrup
Sprinkles
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or a light layer of butter.
Step 2: Layer the Fruits
Place sliced bananas evenly over the bottom of the baking dish.
Pour the crushed pineapple (with juice) over the bananas and spread evenly.
Spoon the strawberry pie filling over the pineapple, spreading it gently.
Step 3: Add the Cake Mix
Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the fruit layer. Don’t stir—it’s a dump cake, so keep the layers intact.
Step 4: Add Chocolate and Butter
Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the cake mix layer.
Drizzle melted butter evenly over the entire surface. Try to cover as much of the cake mix as possible to prevent dry spots.
Step 5: Bake the Cake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Step 6: Serve with Classic Toppings
Scoop the dump cake into bowls. Add a scoop of vanilla or strawberry ice cream, a swirl of whipped cream, a cherry on top, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and sprinkles for the full banana split experience.
Notes
Use Ripe Bananas – They bring natural sweetness and soften beautifully.
Don’t Stir the Layers – Let the ingredients bake as-is for the right texture.
Even Butter Distribution – This helps avoid dry patches on top.
Add Nuts for Crunch – Walnuts or pecans add texture and contrast.
Let It Rest – A brief cooling period helps the cake set and makes serving easier.
