Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (24 oz) package frozen or fresh cheese ravioli
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce (or homemade)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey or beef (optional, for a meaty version)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (or 1 teaspoon dried)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sauce

  1. If using meat, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey or beef, breaking it up, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 2: Assemble the Casserole

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread ⅓ of the marinara sauce on the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Layer half of the ravioli evenly over the sauce.
  4. Dollop ricotta cheese over the ravioli and spread gently.
  5. Sprinkle ½ cup mozzarella and ¼ cup Parmesan over the layer.
  6. Repeat layers: sauce, ravioli, remaining ricotta, and more cheese.
  7. Finish with the remaining sauce and top with extra mozzarella and Parmesan.

Step 3: Bake Until Golden

  1. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes, until cheese is golden and bubbly.

Step 4: Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Let cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with fresh basil.
  2. Serve hot with garlic bread or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • No Need to Boil Ravioli – It cooks perfectly in the sauce while baking.
  • Use Fresh or Frozen Ravioli – Both work great! Just adjust bake time if needed.
  • For Extra Flavor – Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach.
  • For a Creamier Casserole – Mix ½ cup heavy cream into the marinara sauce.
