Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust & Topping:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional, for extra cherry flavor)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Cherry Filling:

  • 1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Crust

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and almond extract.
  4. Gradually mix in flour and salt until combined.

Step 2: Assemble the Bars

  1. Spread ⅔ of the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  2. Spoon the cherry pie filling over the batter, spreading it evenly.
  3. Drop small spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry layer.

Step 3: Bake

  1. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Let the bars cool completely before adding the glaze.

Step 4: Make the Glaze & Serve

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars.
  3. Slice into squares and serve!

Notes

  • Use almond extract – It enhances the cherry flavor beautifully!
  • Don’t overbake – Check around 35 minutes to avoid dry bars.
  • Cool before glazing – If the bars are warm, the glaze will melt instead of setting.
  • Try homemade filling – If you prefer, make your own cherry filling with fresh or frozen cherries!
