- 1–1½ pound cube steaks (about 4 steaks)
- Salt and pepper
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- ½ cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil
- 1–1½ cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 large onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 teaspoon minced thyme
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Creole seasoning
Instructions
- Season cube steaks with salt and pepper, then lightly dust with flour.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and brown the steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side. Remove and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, beef broth, and water until smooth.
- In the same skillet, add butter or oil and sauté mushrooms, onions, thyme, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Creole seasoning for about 6 minutes until tender.
- Add the gravy mixture to the skillet and bring to a boil. Return the browned steaks along with any drippings.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for about 8-10 minutes until flavors meld.
