Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry – Thawed but still cold.
- 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate – Use chopped chocolate or chocolate bars for the best melt.
- 1 egg – Lightly beaten (for the egg wash).
- 1 tablespoon milk – Helps give the croissants a golden shine.
- Powdered sugar (optional) – For a light dusting before serving.
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Puff Pastry
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly flour your surface and roll out the puff pastry to smooth the edges.
Step 2: Cut and Fill the Croissants
- Cut the pastry into 4 equal rectangles (or triangles for a traditional croissant shape).
- Place a few pieces of chocolate at the wider end of each rectangle.
Step 3: Roll and Seal
- Roll the dough over the chocolate, tucking in the sides slightly as you roll to keep the chocolate inside.
- Place the rolled croissants seam-side down on the baking sheet.
Step 4: Brush with Egg Wash
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
- Brush the croissants lightly with the egg wash for a beautiful golden finish.
Step 5: Bake Until Golden
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
- Dust with powdered sugar for a sweet touch.
- Serve warm and enjoy the melty chocolate goodness!
Notes
Use high-quality chocolate – It melts better and gives a richer flavor.
Don’t overfill – Too much chocolate can cause leaking.
Seal the edges well – This prevents the chocolate from escaping.
Bake until deeply golden – This ensures maximum crispiness.
