  • 1 pound flank steak (or preferred cut of beef, thinly sliced)
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil (plus 2 tablespoons, divided)
  • ½ teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • ½ cup less sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ⅓ cup cornstarch
  • 2 green onions (sliced)

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef into thin pieces and coat with cornstarch; set aside.
  2. In a skillet, heat 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil over medium-low heat. Add ginger and garlic, sauté until fragrant.
  3. Stir in soy sauce, water, and brown sugar; bring to a boil and cook for 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened. Set aside.
  4. In another pan or wok, heat remaining vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Cook the beef in batches until browned but not fully cooked.
  5. Combine the beef with the sauce in the skillet and heat until bubbly. Stir in sliced green onions before serving.
