Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) German chocolate or chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the box (typically eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 14 oz can evaporated milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions and pour into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Bake for about 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cooling for 10 minutes.
  3. Poke holes in the cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  4. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine evaporated milk, butter, brown sugar, and egg yolks; cook until thickened (about 10–12 minutes). Stir in coconut, pecans, and vanilla.
  6. Spread the coconut-pecan mixture over the cake and chill for at least one hour before serving.
