Ingredients

  • Unsalted Butter (½ cup, melted) – Adds richness.
  • Granulated Sugar (1 cup) – Creates the signature crackly top.
  • Brown Sugar (¼ cup, packed) – Enhances moisture and flavor.
  • Eggs (2 large) – Gives structure and chewiness.
  • Vanilla Extract (1 tsp) – Deepens the chocolate flavor.
  • Cocoa Powder (½ cup, unsweetened) – Provides deep chocolate taste.
  • All-Purpose Flour (½ cup) – Keeps the brownies dense and fudgy.
  • Salt (¼ tsp) – Balances the sweetness.
  • Baking Powder (½ tsp, optional) – Adds slight lift (skip for ultra-dense brownies).
  • Chocolate Chips (½ cup, optional) – Melts into gooey chocolate pockets.

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare the Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.

Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is light and slightly thickened.

Step 3: Add the Dry Ingredients

Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder (if using). Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix!

Step 4: Add the Chocolate Chips

Stir in chocolate chips for extra gooey brownies (optional but recommended).

Step 5: Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Step 6: Cool & Slice

Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before slicing. This helps them set and get the perfect fudgy texture.

Notes

  • Don’t Overmix: Stir until just combined for the perfect texture.
  • Use Quality Cocoa: The better the cocoa, the richer the brownies.
  • Let Them Cool: For clean slices and the best fudgy texture, cool before cutting.
