For the Shrimp

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk – Helps the coating stick and adds tenderness.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch – For extra crispiness.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper – Optional, for extra heat.
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Hot Honey Glaze

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce – Choose your favorite!
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes – Adjust for heat level.
  • 1 tablespoon butter – Adds richness and helps coat the shrimp.

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Shrimp

  1. In a bowl, add shrimp and cover with buttermilk. Let them soak for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Breading

  1. In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper.

Step 3: Coat and Fry the Shrimp

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pan.
  2. Remove shrimp from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off.
  3. Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, pressing gently to coat well.
  4. Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  5. Transfer shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Make the Hot Honey Glaze

  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, and butter.
  2. Stir until the butter melts and the glaze is smooth.

Step 5: Toss and Serve

  1. Drizzle the hot honey glaze over the fried shrimp or toss them in a bowl to coat evenly.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Use cornstarch – It makes the shrimp extra crispy!
Don’t overcrowd the pan – Fry in batches for even cooking.
Adjust the spice – More red pepper flakes = more heat!
Serve immediately – The shrimp are best hot and crispy!
