1 (28 oz) bag frozen French fries or waffle fries
-
1 tbsp olive oil (if baking or air frying)
-
Salt to taste
For the Philly Steak Topping:
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 lb beef sirloin or thin-sliced steak (ribeye or flank steak also works), cut into strips
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
1 small onion, thinly sliced
-
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Cheese Sauce:
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter
-
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
1 cup whole milk
-
1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella for extra stretch)
-
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for sharpness)
-
¼ tsp garlic powder
-
Salt to taste
Optional Toppings:
-
Sliced jalapeños
-
Chopped parsley
-
Crushed red pepper flakes
-
Extra cheese for melting on top
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Fries
-
Preheat your oven or air fryer according to the package directions.
-
Spread the fries in a single layer and toss with olive oil and a bit of salt.
-
Bake or air fry until golden brown and crispy (usually 20–25 minutes).
-
Set aside and keep warm.
Step 2: Make the Cheese Sauce
-
In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
-
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
-
Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened (about 3–5 minutes).
-
Reduce heat to low and stir in shredded cheeses, garlic powder, and salt.
-
Keep warm, stirring occasionally, until ready to serve.
Step 3: Cook the Steak and Veggies
-
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Add the sliced steak and season with salt and pepper. Sear for 2–3 minutes until browned.
-
Remove steak and set aside.
-
In the same pan, add onions and bell peppers. Sauté until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5–6 minutes.
-
Return the steak to the skillet and stir in Worcestershire sauce. Toss everything together and cook for another minute.
Step 4: Assemble the Philly Steak Cheese Fries
-
Spread the cooked fries on a large serving platter or tray.
-
Spoon the hot steak and veggie mixture evenly over the fries.
-
Drizzle generously with warm cheese sauce.
-
Add optional toppings like jalapeños, parsley, or more shredded cheese.
-
Serve immediately while everything is hot and melty.
Notes
Use Thin-Cut Fries – They crisp up nicely and hold the toppings well.
Don’t Overcook the Steak – Quick searing keeps it juicy and tender.
Make It Spicy – Add jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the cheese sauce for a kick.
Layer Smartly – Fries first, then meat and veggies, then cheese last for the best texture.
