For the Cheesecake Layer:

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream

For the Red Velvet Cake Layer:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Cheesecake Layer

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and line a 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing just until combined.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and sour cream until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the center is just set.
  6. Let cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight).

Step 2: Make the Red Velvet Cake Layer

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In another bowl, mix oil, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, vinegar, and red food coloring.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cool completely.

Step 3: Make the Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until creamy.
  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.

Step 4: Assemble the Cake

  1. Place the red velvet cake layer on a serving plate.
  2. Carefully place the chilled cheesecake layer on top.
  3. Spread cream cheese frosting evenly over the top and sides.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Slice and serve with extra red velvet cake crumbs for decoration!
