Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steaks:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely grated
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg
¼ cup breadcrumbs
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper

For the Gravy:
1 tbsp butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for depth)
Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Potatoes:
1½ cups baby potatoes, halved
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, grated onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined—don’t overwork. Form into 4 oval patties.

Step 2: Cook the Potatoes
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add halved potatoes, season with salt, pepper, and herbs. Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fork-tender and golden. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

Step 3: Sear the Steaks
In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed. Sear the Salisbury steaks over medium heat for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

Step 4: Make the Gravy
Melt butter in the skillet. Add sliced onions and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 5: Simmer Everything Together
Return the Salisbury steaks and potatoes to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the top, cover, and simmer on low heat for 10–12 minutes, until the steaks are cooked through and everything is warmed.

Step 6: Serve Hot
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve straight from the skillet with extra gravy spooned over each steak.

Notes

Use 80/20 Ground Beef – For juicy, flavorful patties
Grate the Onion – Adds moisture and flavor without big chunks
Don’t Overmix – Keeps the patties tender
Simmer Slowly – Helps everything soak up that rich gravy
Add Veggies – Mushrooms or peas work great in the gravy
